Stop the Bleed

The Stop the Bleed initiative is a national public health campaign to encourage bystanders to become trained and equipped with the skills and resources to provide immediate help in a bleeding emergency.  Quickly stopping the bleeding is critical as a person with life-threatening injuries can die from blood loss within five minutes.

Regardless of how rapid emergency responders may arrive, bystanders are always the first on-scene. Being the nearest to the bleeding person, properly trained bystanders can provide immediate bleeding control.

UCLA, along with a number of federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations, are developing resources and training for the public in bleeding control. Through the UCLA First Care Provider course, community members can learn immediate life-saving skills. Participants who complete the course receive a UCLA Stop the Bleed Kit (while supplies last).

All UCLA Stop the Bleed Kits contain materials recommended by the Department of Defense and Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care.
